The Elephants Bedroom Camp is located in Samburu National Reserve which is well known for its large population of lions and leopards. The lodge was named after the palm nut trees surrounding the camp that act as food for the elephants in the reserve. The Samburu National Reserve is home to the big five with over 900 elephants, the Somali ostrich, Beisa Oryx, Reticulated giraffes, and impalas among others. The Elephant Bedroom camp is a mid-range accommodation facility with a 3.5-star rating located along the banks of Ewaso Nyiro River in Samburu National Park. Getting to the lodge is quite easy and you can use either road or air transport. It takes about 40 to 50 minutes to fly from Nairobi to the Isolo airstrip which is just five minutes away from the camp and it is 2 to 3 hours to drive from Nairobi to the camp. The camp is located in the Northern part of Samburu National Park in a strategic place with an interesting view of the surrounding hills. Elephants Bedroom camp is 343km from Nairobi meaning it can be accessed either by driving or flying to the lodge.

Facilities at the Elephant Bedroom Camp

The facilities and services that are offered at the camp are quite many and these include bush lunches and dinners that are easily organized with prior information to the restaurant, a well-stocked bar that serves both local and international drinks including beers, wines, spirits, cocktails, whiskeys and soft drinks. The soft drinks can be enjoyed around the bar, lounge, or at the wooden decks with the setting sun in view and the wildlife, a restaurant that serves both local and international cuisines that meet the guests’ appetite needs and the meals include breakfast, lunch, and dinner with different course meals served during dinner, and the meals are served at the restaurant, although with prior information to the chefs, they can be served in your preferred location. WIFI can be accessed from the rooms and around the camp, honeymoon facilities, conference rooms where several meetings can be carried out like wedding meetings, and business meetings, and a craft shop where guests shop for items like shoes, bags, jewellery, and other personal essentials.

Activities at the Elephant Bedroom Camp

Safari activities are offered at the Elephants Bedroom camp with some coming at an extra cost but no matter because if you have the time and money, they are all worth trying out. Some of the activities that are carried out include picnics, guided nature walks, bush breakfasts and lunches, game drives in an open 4×4 safari vehicle, sundowners, cultural visits, and lectures about the Samburu culture among others.

Game drives: game drives are the most anticipated activities on any safari and one of the activities offered at the camp. It is a chance to view many of the wildlife that is found in the National Park and some of the animals that you should look out for include lions, hyenas, buffalos, elephants, antelopes, gazelles, and numerous bird species that are best seen in the wet season like bee-eaters, Tawny eagles, yellow-billed hornbill and sunbirds among others.

Cultural trips: the cultural visits are carried out in the Samburu villages where the Samburu people who are part of the Masai tribe are found. They are semi-nomadic Nilotic pastoralists who are best known for rearing different types of domestic animals like camels, sheep, goats, and cattle. Their unique culture is worth learning about and you will be welcomed by the locals with songs and dance, learn about the different activities carried out in their day-to-day lives and also get yourself souvenirs handmade by the locals.

Guided nature walks: guided nature walks are one of the many ways in which you can enjoy the wonderful breeze and explore the national park from a different angle. The guided walks are done in the presence of an experienced tour guide and an armed ranger and you will be able to see animals, and birds and at the same time enjoy the green nature of the National Park. Note that some activities will carry an extra charge and you should be ready with some extra cash for example bush dinners at $55 per person, guided walks at $55 per person, picnics at $45 per person, and a visit to the Samburu village at $45 per person among others. Accommodation at Elephant’s Bedroom Camp

The rooms at the camp are categorized into three that is single rooms, double/twin rooms, triple rooms, and family rooms. The cost of each room varies according to the number of people sharing but an estimate is from as low as $200 and above putting into consideration the season of your travel and other factors.

The Elephant bedroom camp has 14 en-suite tented rooms that were set up in a unique style with beautiful views of the surrounding areas. The rooms are fitted with facilities like wooden balconies, mosquito nets, satellite TVs, hair dryers, sitting areas, modern and comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms fitted with a bathtub and showers that have both hot and cold running water and flushing toilets, queen-sized beds, and a fireplace which keeps the guests warm during the cold season.

Elephants-Bedroom Camp AccommodationThe lounge is right next to the dining area and both are decorated in a lavish and African style giving off an intimate feel to the guests as they relax after the day’s activities. The lounge with the fireplace is the right place for guests to relax and unwind as they share different stories amongst themselves. The restaurant has hanging hammocks where guests get to relax after having heavy delicious meals. Sundowners are normally arranged along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River with views of the surrounding hills, wildlife (both animals and bird species), and the backdrop of the setting sun.
