Voi Wildlife Lodge is found at the Tsavo East National Park best known for the large crowds of African elephants. The Voi wildlife lodge is an ideal place for tourists taking a safari in Kenya to have both a bush and beach experience on the African continent and this is because of its proximity to both the coast and the boundary of the Tsavo East National Park. The Voi wildlife lodge is a luxurious facility found in the Eastern part of the National Park surrounded by grasslands and wildlife that strides through the lodge as they go to the waterhole for a drink. The lodge is 339 kilometres from Nairobi and tourists driving from Nairobi to the camp will need about 7 hours whereas the flying takes 2 hours to get to the nearest Tsavo airstrip where the safari vehicle will be waiting with a tour guide to drive you to the National park.

Accommodation at Voi Wildlife Lodge      

Accommodation at the lodge comes in different sizes and categories and these are singles, double/twin rooms and family/triple rooms running for $300 and above or lower depending on many factors including the season of travel that is the peak season sees the rates doubled because of the many tourists on a safari and the rates can still go down in the low/wet season to attract more tourists during the rainy season.

The lodge has a total of 88 rooms and accommodates a maximum of 300 guests, with 24 luxury rooms, 16 standard rooms and 48 superior rooms. The rooms are decorated and were built in an African style with grass-thatched rooms with a mixture of modernity to fit the comfort of the guests. The facilities in the Voi wildlife lodge include satellite television sets, en-suite bathrooms with a flushing toilet, shower/bathtubs with hot and cold running water, a sitting area, hair dryers, comfortable and clean beddings, wooden balconies, mosquito nets, and fireplaces to provide warmth to guests during the cold months.

What to see and do at the Satao Camp     

There are different activities and tourist attractions that guests at the lodge can engage in and these include the following:

Bush dinners

These are special meals that are prepared by well-trained chefs at the camp’s restaurant. You need to be able to inform the restaurant beforehand so that the meals are well prepared.

Game drives: this is one of the best ways to explore the national park. Two drives are offered at the camp per day throughout your stay with trained guides in 4×4 safari vehicles. Picnics can be arranged as you enjoy the game drives and some of the animals seen include hippos, elephants, zebras, lions, crocodiles, leopards and numerous recorded bird species. Carry a camera and some binoculars with you on your safari drive.

Bird watching: although this can be done throughout the year, the best time to go bird watching is during the wet season when the migratory birds fly into the country around November to April.

Other activities carried out include sundowners, animal tracking, guided nature walks, and cultural trips to the villages where you get to learn more about the culture of the local people. The tourist attractions around the lodge include the Kanderi swamp, the Yatta plateau that looks like a valley frozen in time, the Gaiana River, Lugard’s’ falls and Aruba Dam.

The lodge offers luxurious accommodations to tourists in Tsavo East National Park, it is suitable for all types of tourists, needs to be booked in advance and is open through the different seasons (peak and wet season).

Facilities and services offered at the lodge

well-stocked bar: the well-stocked bar/lounge serves both local and international drinks with some served at the pool bar and the drinks served include international beers, wines, spirits, local beers, whiskeys, cocktails and soft drinks among others.

WIFI is available in all the rooms around the camp and this is to help guests keep in touch with their families and friends at home.

Free parking space is offered to all the guests at the camp at no extra cost.

A restaurant: The restaurant is found in the main building where all the meals are prepared and served. Different meals including both African-inspired and international cuisines prepared by well-trained chefs and an available and well-trained and accommodating staff waiting on you. The three meals that are served at the lodge include breakfast, lunch and dinner and bush meals are also prepared.

Blue swimming pool: the pool is open and free to all the guests where they get to relax and cool off from the heat, especially during the dry season.

Laundry services, free parking space, airport drop-offs and pickups, and a craft shop where you can do a little personal shopping for souvenirs like bags, shoes, jewellery and other African safari essentials.

Health and Fitness Centres: these include a gym, massage parlour, spa and steam bath. They are all well-equipped with the latest and modern equipment.

conference facilities: the conference facilities at the Voi wildlife lodge are sometimes shared with the Manyatta camp and it has the Ndovu hall that has a capacity of 200 people, Chinmaya hall has a capacity of 600, the Taifa all with a capacity of 50 and the Acacia boardroom that was constructed in a theatre style has a capacity of 30. All the above mentioned conference rooms offer room for seminars, wedding meetings and receptions, corporate groups, retreats and conferences with all the necessary equipment.

The large dining area has a capacity of about 250 people and this is where the meals are served, the spar bar has a vegetarian kitchen that is separate from the other kitchen and an open bar. The spa bar is furnished with cream sofas where guests can sit and relax as they enjoy the view of the waterhole where different species of wildlife gather for a drink or to cool off.

Other facilities that are found at the lodge include a pool table, two badminton courts, a children’s outdoor recreation Centre, Jacuzzi, table tennis and a volleyball court. It also has a mini library, television set and DVD facilities. Similar mid range lodges nearby includes the Voi Safari Lodge located inside the Tsavo East National Park not far from Voi Wildlife Lodge.
